Who Are You?

Who are you?

You are the rain that falls on a flooded sea.

You are the sunshine that shines on a hot summer noon.

Who are you?

You are the tired sun on a cold December eve.

You are the yellowing leaves falling off the trees.

Who are you?

You are the extra pair of earrings that I bought and then forgot.

You are the favorite red jacket that’s a size too small.

Who are you?

You are the faded pages of my old dairy.

You are an old love poem that I wrote and no one reads.

Who are you?

You are the dream that I dreamt of a day and then forgot when I woke up.

You are the promise that I made to someone and then broke it.

Who are you?

You are the smile that stole on me in my youth.

You are the cynicism that laced my tone as I grew.

Who are you?

You are the tear that hides unshed in my eye

You are the smile that I forgot to smile.

Are you?

The fiery foe?

The forbidden friend?

The silent need?

The screaming heat?

Yet when I look around me,

You are the only one I see.

You my shadow are still dear to me.
